The uniqueness of Gérard Bakner's work stems from his background and path. A recognized magician in France, he decided in 2012 to transpose the art of magic by creating tableaux with unexpected, even inexplicable effects.
By adapting mathematical formulas, optical illusions and magical effects to his creations, he brings a unique and original dimension to today's contemporary art landscape.
In 2015, at the Black is Back exhibition, G. Bakner's work received praise from ORLAN and the watchful eye of Christine Macel (chief curator of the Centre Pompidou), among other representatives of major French institutions. More recently, Yoyo Maeght also praised the originality of her work. G. Bakner has exhibited alongside works by Victor Vasarely, and one of his creations was integrated into the office of Yves Carcelle (first president of the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour l'Art Contemporain). His work has been shown in exhibitions in Paris, Blois, Brussels, New York, Busan (South Korea) and recently in Maastricht. A number of his works have found their way into prestigious private collections and national museums. In addition, the Opéra National de Paris has included two of his creations in the programming of one of its ballets.
