Antoine schmitt

Antoine Schmitt is a visual artist who creates works in the form of objects, installations and live performances, exploring movement processes in all their forms.

He questions their intrinsic problematics, whether plastic, philosophical or social. Heir to kinetic and cybernetic art, and inspired by metaphysical science fiction, he tirelessly examines the dynamic interactions between human nature and reality. Trained as a programming engineer specializing in human-machine interaction and artificial intelligence, Antoine Schmitt uses computer programming as a contemporary artistic material, unique in its active quality. This approach enables him to literally reveal and manipulate the forces at play in his works. Through a minimal and precise aesthetic, he raises the question of movement, its causes and its forms.

Antoine Schmitt integrates this approach into established artistic practices such as music, dance, architecture, literature and cinema. He has collaborated with artists such as Franck Vigroux, Atau Tanaka, Vincent Epplay, Jean-Jacques Birgé, Delphine Doukhan, K.Danse, Patrice Belin, Don Nino, Cubenx, Alberto Sorbelli, Matthew Bourne and Hortense Gauthier. Theorist, lecturer and editor of the gratin.org portal, he explores the field of programmed art. His work has won numerous awards at international festivals, including: - transmediale (Berlin, second prize 2007, honorable mention 2001) - Ars Electronica (Linz, second prize 2009) - UNESCO International Festival of Video-Dance (Paris, first prize online 2002) - Vida 5.0 (Madrid, honorable mention 2002) - CYNETart (Dresden, honorable mention 2004) - medi@terra (Athens, first prize 1999) - Interférences (Belfort, first prize 2000) His work has been exhibited in renowned institutions such as: - Center Georges Pompidou (Paris) - Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) - Sonar (Barcelona) - Ars Electronica (Linz) - CAC de Sienne (Italy) - Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon He has also taken part in the Nuits Blanches (Paris, Amiens, Metz, Brussels, Madrid) and features in the collections of several foundations and institutions, including: - Artphilein (CH) - Fondation Fraenkel (USA) - Fondation Meeschaert (FR) - Société Générale (FR) - Espace Gantner (Bourogne, FR) - Le Cube (Issy-les-Moulineaux, FR) - Fonds municipal d'art contemporain de Paris (FMAC) - Collection Borusan (USA) - Collection Broich Foundation (DE) Antoine Schmitt is represented by Galerie Charlot (Paris) and gallery DAM Projects (Berlin).
